Information Meeting to Give Answers About Fill Material in Streams

(Ross County Service Center, Chillicothe) -- Many farmers and homeowners with property next to a creek or stream battle the constant problem of streambank erosion. The natural flow of water can chew away farmland and endanger homes and other structures.

If you’re planning a project that will result in the discharge of dredge or fill material into a lake, stream, or wetland you may need a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ohio EPA.

Property owners have lots of questions about how to stop erosion, what fill material can be used, and what permits are required to reinforce an eroding streambank. The Ohio EPA will hold a regional meeting with answers for property owners about placement of fill material in streams and wetlands.

The free information meeting starts at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th in the conference room at the OSU Pike County Extension office at 313 Mill Street in Piketon. Please RSVP the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District at 740-772-1711 extension 3 or email admin@rosscountyswcd.org.

Township Trustees, contractors, and anyone who works with dredge and fill material is encouraged to attend.

The meeting is cosponsored by the Ohio EPA and soil and water conservation districts in Adams, Pike, Ross, and Scioto counties. Contact the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District for more information.
