Termination of Ross Jail Employee Due to Excessive Force Used on Inmate

Ross County Sheriff’s Office

The Ross County Sheriff has provided more detail into a recent incident at the Ross County Jail that led to the termination of a jail employee.

Ross County Sheriff George Lavender fired his jail administrator over an issue involving excessive force with an inmate.

Officials say Major William White has been terminated after getting into a physical altercation with inmate Ronnie Pettiford Junior on February 9th.

Incident reports say White threw Pettiford to the ground, kneed, and kicked him, resulting in him being transported to a nearby hospital for care.

In a release from earlier this week, Sheriff Lavender said he will not tolerate misconduct from officers, regardless of rank, and he has contacted Ohio BCI to look into the incident.
