With the Month of March now underway, the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DD) and the Pioneer Center will be holding a few developmental disabilities awareness events to help spread the message.
The March DD awareness campaign kicked off on Wednesday with a virtual viewing of the DD Awareness Day at the Ohio Statehouse. The campaign then continued Thursday with a DD awareness walk in downtown Chillicothe. A crowd took a stroll from Yoctangee Park to the Ross County Courthouse where a proclamation designating the month of March as Chillicothe DD Awareness Month was delivered by Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney..
Amy Beeler, Superintendent of the Pioneer Center, was on hand for Thursday's awareness walk.
“We have fun events planned throughout the month to bring awareness about those with Developmental Disabilities, the services we provide within the community, information about different disabilities, and inclusion,” said Beeler.
Other developmental disability awareness events line up for this month include a skating party at the Cavalier Skating Rink on Tuesday, March 21st, a Party at the Elks on Friday, March 24th, and the Ross County Special Olympics Basketball game at Chillicothe High School on Wednesday, March 29th. The developmental disabilities awareness events also include a special art exhibit on display at the Pump House Center for the Arts.
