Wilmington's Murphy Theatre Awarded Restoration & Beautification Grant

The Murphy Theatre in Wilmington has been awarded a restoration and beautification grant through the Ohio History Connection’s Ohio History Fund.

The Murphy Theatre was constructed in 1918 and the plaster and decorative works in the theatre’s lobby and auditorium are in need of repair due to water damage. The theatre has been awarded $15,705 to complete the needed restoration.

Republican State Representative Bob Peterson called the theatre a staple of the Wilmington community during his announcement of the grant on Thursday.

Peterson said making repairs to the parts of the theatre that were affected by water damage will ensure that audience members will be able to enjoy the Murphy for years to come.
