Ohio's House Bill 45 went into effect Friday, which means adoptive parents can now apply for a grant. It can be awarded to parents who have finalized an adopting since January 1st of this year, and awards up to $20,000.
It's due to the new Ohio Adoption Grant Program which replaces an adoption tax credit [that required parents to submit receipts to be eligible for up to $10,000.
The grant applies to adoptions made through private and public agencies and is on a per child basis. Parents can apply online at adoptiongrant.ohio.gov.
