A gathering was held this past weekend celebrating a new venture for Fayette County.
Honda and LG Energy Solutions broke ground for a new 4.4-billion electric vehicle battery plant in Jeffersonville earlier this year and a community event for the future plant took place this past Saturday, June 3rd at the Fayette County Airport.
The plant is expected to bring 22-hundred new jobs to the region and will serve as a production site for lithium-ion batteries. The plant will be large enough to fit 78 football fields inside, according to Honda Officials.
Saturday’s event touched on the plant’s future operations and allowed community members to meet and speak with facility leaders and gain information on future job opportunities.
The new plant is expected to be a boon for the local economy. Construction is expected to be finished at the end of this year with mass production beginning in 2025.
