The Pickaway County Historical Society has four archaeological events coming up this summer and fall.
I caught archaeologist Jeb Bowen of the historical society after announcing the events at Tuesday’s meeting of the Mound City Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio. Hear him in his own words below…but to summarize:
The Pickaway County Historical Society will be represented at the Friends of Serpent Mound Summer Solstice Celebration Festival in Adams County, near Locust Grove, between Sinking Spring and Peebles.
The annual event is Friday and Saturday, June 21st and 22nd, on private land adjacent to the park. Learn more in the event’s website and Friend’s Facebook page.
Three all-day special archaeological displays will be at the Clark-May Museum in Circleville. From 10am to 4pm on the first Saturday in three consecutive months, you can see artifacts collected over the years. There will not be a lecture, but staff will be on hand to explain what you see.
- On August 4th, a collection from the Franklin Valley area between Jackson and Oak Hill, Ohio, will be on display.
- On September 7th will be the Dan Schleich Collection from Circleville and Pickaway County.
- And on October 5th is Randy Sanders’ collection of late prehistoric artifacts from southern Ohio.
- The Clark-May Museum, the home of the Pickaway County Historical Society, is at 162 West Union Street in Circleville.
