OVI Checkpoints this weekend in Ross & Jackson Counties

Chillicothe - The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office and the Chillicothe Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. friday night on South Bridge Street, in Ross County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will also be holding an OVI checkpoint will be held in Jackson County Saturday evening.

“Based on provisional data, there were 397 OVI-related fatal crashes in which 428 people were killed last year in Ohio,” Lieutenant Aaron Morgan, commander of the Jackson Post, said. “State Troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

The location of the Jackson County checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning.
