Dolly Parton shared footage from the sweet moment she met Sabrina Carpenter as the pair teamed up on a duet version of “Please Please Please.” The new version with a country spin appears on the deluxe edition of Carpenter’s Grammy winning record, Short n’ Sweet.
“I didn’t know how tall you were! You’re like my height,” Carpenter beamed as she and Parton embraced in a hug. The pair posed for photos together, and Parton gushed that they looked like a “before and after” snapshot. Carpenter, 25, exclaimed, “I hope I look like you [Parton]” someday. The legendary country star, 79, also jokingly called out Carpenter: “you and your dirty words!”
The smash hit song famously includes the lyric, “I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherf***er.” That line was altered in the new version with Parton to, “I beg you don’t embarrass me like the others.”
Carpenter released her extended Short n’ Sweet album, on Valentine’s Day. She also premiered the new “Please Please Please” music video with Parton on Friday (February 14), which she directed with Sean Price Williams. The visual is presented in the style of a classic, black-and-white film. It opens with Carpenter behind the wheel of a vintage truck, and Parton reading a former Nashville, Tennessee-based newspaper in the passenger seat.
Throughout the video, the genre-blending duo also appear to reference Carpenter’s split from actor Barry Keoghan, 32, who was in the original music video before the breakup. What happens next is reminiscent of Thelma & Louise (or, as longtime country fans might recall, The Chicks’ “Goodbye Earl”) as Parton hands Carpenter a shovel. Eventually, Parton and Carpenter hear police sirens behind them. Viewers catch a glimpse of a captive man moving in the back of the truck with his face covered and his arms behind his back. His wardrobe is the same as Keoghan’s in the original music video.
“Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!!” Carpenter gushed as she debuted the new video on Valentine’s Day. “I am so honored to have one of my biggest idols on a song that means so much to me.” The deluxe record includes several new tracks in addition to “Taste,” the original version of “Please Please Please,” “Espresso” and more:

Carpenter announced her deluxe album on February 4, two days after scoring the Best Pop Solo Performance award for “Espresso” and the Best Pop Vocal Album award for Short n’ Sweet at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 2) at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. She took the stage with an unforgettable performance that evening, along with Billie Eilish, Doechii, Shakira, Charli XCX, Benson Boone and other performers. Carpenter immediately pointed out — and freaked out over — her collaboration with Parton when she announced the deluxe edition of Short n’ Sweet: “yes that does say featuring Miss Dolly Parton…. 💋💋💋she wouldn’t want me to swear but holy sh*t!!!!!”
“I want Dolly in everything,” Carpenter said in the video when she met Parton. “Thank you for being you.”
